Elena Souliotis: Chronicle of a career 1965-74 
The Greek-born soprano Elena Souliotos galvanised the world’s operatic stages following her debut in Naples in late 1964. Immediately offered a significant recording contract by Decca, she was then thrust to the forefront of the operatic world, making her electrifying debut at La Scala, Milan only two years later in 1966. However over-work soon took its toll and by 1974 it was all over, but not before Souliotos had generated much excitement wherever she sang. This publication contains twenty complete live opera recordings in mp3 form covering the full extent of her career, including some of the most challenging dramatic soprano roles in the repertoire. Josef Krips: the complete Concert Hall recordings
Following the termination of his recording contract with Decca in 1960 Josef Krips made a number of recordings for the Concert Hall record club (also known as the Musical Masterpiece Society) with the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra in 1960 and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in 1962. The works recorded covered the cornerstones of Krips's repertoire, with symphonies by Brahms, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky, overtures by Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms, and a Johann Strauss concert. In anticipation of the significant re-release by Eloquence of the complete Decca and Philips recordings made by Krips, this release presents all the Concert Hall recordings in mp3 form on a single CD-ROM as an valuable appendix to Krips’s recording career.

The Italian Radio (RAI) broadcasts of 1951 to mark the 5oth anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Verdi. During 1951 RAI broadcast virtually all of the operas by Verdi to mark the 50th anniversary of his death in 1901. This remarkable set of performances has well stood the test of time, with many of them being reissued in different formats. This DVD-ROM brings together in mp3 form all the 21 broadcasts that have survived, in performances which really capture the unique essence of Verdi. Sir Adrian Boult conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in Elgar and Beethoven
In February 1964 Sir Adrian Boult made a TV studio recording with the London Symphony Orchestra playing Nimrod and WN from Elgar’s Enigma Variations and a complete performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 ‘Eroica’. The recording was made by Associated Rediffusion Television, but has never been broadcast. A good copy of the video recording has recently come to light and is now offered as a DVD, complete with notes by the London Symphony Orchestra’s discographer Philip Stuart.

The Italian tenor Flaviano Labò was a mainstay of the world’s major operatic stages from the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s. However competition was intense at this time – for instance Corelli and Bergonzi were just two distinguished contemporaries – and Labò made only two studio recordings of complete operas. Singing For Arthur by Robin Moore
This book is devoted to Arthur Oldham, one of the greatest English chorus masters in the second half of the twentieth century. It is written from the point of view of a chorister who had the privilege of singing symphonic choral music under Oldham’s direction, first as a member of the LSO Chorus from 1969 to 1974 and then the Edinburgh Festival Chorus from 1974 to 1977. The book describes how Arthur Oldham became a chorus master and examines his approach and methods with regard to choral training. It looks at the origins and development of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus and Oldham’s work with the LSO Chorus. Pre-eminent among the conductors he worked with are Carlo Maria Giulini and Colin Davis and the book examines his relationship with both. The list of legendary conductors he also worked with includes Bernstein, Stokowski, Kertesz, Previn, Abbado and Barenboim. To that list two composer-conductors, Britten and Tippett need to be added, and particularly the former as Arthur was Britten’s only composition pupil. The book looks at and compares the differing interpretative approaches to the choral masterworks of these conductors and reviews the critical reaction to the resulting concerts and recordings. It also chronicles the stresses and satisfactions of an amateur chorister who has to hold down a demanding job while singing symphonic choral music at the highest level with major orchestras under leading maestros of the day.
